Last month, we introduced the topic of technology considerations when moving or expanding your business. \u00a0Today, we kick off a six-part blog series for Deciders on the different areas of technology that need consideration.<\/p>\n

Assume you\u2019re changing office locations, which means you\u2019ll likely use this as an opportunity to reassess your existing phone system<\/a>. \u00a0What do you need to think about first?<\/p>\n

The initial thinking process is not about the heavy technical stuff. \u00a0Technical, customized considerations come later. \u00a0Need video-collaboration calling? \u00a0Unified messaging? \u00a0Remote worker support? \u00a0Call-centre capabilities? Expandability? \u00a0Sure, no problem.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s consider the broader choices first.<\/p>\n

If you have an outdated phone system, chances are\u00a0you’ve\u00a0heard of Voice Over IP (VoIP) technology<\/a> and its potential to save you money and add functionality. \u00a0What you may not be aware of is that you have choices on how to purchase and manage your phone system.<\/p>\n

Managing Your Choices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Managing your choices means deciding how much control of your phone system you need. \u00a0Consider the scale and nature of your business. \u00a0How often do you have staff changes? \u00a0How critical is up-time to your business? \u00a0Does call volume fluctuate seasonally? \u00a0Do you have the appropriate IT people to manage your own system? \u00a0Do you want to purchase it up front? \u00a0Do you eat the red ones last? \u00a0You get the idea; you\u2019re a Decider.<\/p>\n

To Host or Not to Host?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everything begins with a nuanced selection. \u00a0The options differ slightly, but the difference for your business could be significant. \u00a0Let\u2019s look at three choices:<\/p>\n

(1) On Site All the Time:<\/strong> This means that the IP PBX system\u2014or, the box, the unit that combines networking and telephony\u2014is installed on-premise by Activo. \u00a0You have it managed by your capable IT team. \u00a0You\u2019ll take charge of everything, thanks very much.<\/p>\n

(2) Remotely Yours: <\/strong>Your business doesn\u2019t have the scale necessary to support an IT team. \u00a0You don\u2019t care to host the system for whatever reason anyway. \u00a0You have Activo remotely host your system in a secure location and manage it for you. \u00a0(You\u2019ve got better things to worry about).<\/p>\n
