{"id":1325,"date":"2015-02-20T19:32:54","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T19:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.activo.ca\/blog\/?p=1325"},"modified":"2024-01-15T16:56:24","modified_gmt":"2024-01-15T16:56:24","slug":"highlights-from-ciscos-visual-networking-index-global-mobile-forecast-2014-2019-whitepaper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.activo.ca\/blog\/highlights-from-ciscos-visual-networking-index-global-mobile-forecast-2014-2019-whitepaper\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlights from Cisco\u2019s Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Forecast 2014-2019 [Whitepaper]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.activo.ca\/activo-services\/service-provider\/business-grade-internet.html\">IP networks<\/a> are under increasingly large demands, as we access them from numerous of devices for a wide range of applications, like video, social networking, <a href=\"http:\/\/voice.activo.ca\/managed-voice\/unified-communications\/\">collaboration and unified communications<\/a>, and much more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cisco recently released its 2015 Virtual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast for 2014-2019. <\/strong>The forecast tracks the impact of current visual networking applications on global networks, as well as predicting their trajectory to help businesses prepare for the future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focusing on North America, let\u2019s look at some of the highlights from the VNI Forecast:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Cisco-Visual-Networking-Index-Global-Mobile-Data-Traffic-Forecast-Update-2014\u20132019.bmp\" alt=\"CISCO Networking - Activo\" width=\"400\" height=\"185\" \/>2014 in Review<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Business mobile traffic grew by 60%<\/li>\n<li>Business mobile traffic reached 125.8 Petabytes per month<\/li>\n<li>The volume of mobile traffic in 2014 was 31x the volume in 2009 (a difference of five years)<\/li>\n<li>Mobile data traffic grew 2.8x faster than fixed IP traffic<\/li>\n<li>Smartphones, laptops, and tablets all have generated more mobile traffic per month than they did in 2013<\/li>\n<li>Mobile traffic data accounts for 3% of fixed and mobile data traffic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Predictions for 2019<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Business mobile traffic will grow at a compound annual rate of 46% from 2014 to 2019<\/li>\n<li>Business mobile traffic will reach 837.5 Petabytes per month<\/li>\n<li>The volume of mobile traffic in 2019 will be 210x the volume in 2009 (a difference of ten years)<\/li>\n<li>Mobile traffic will grow 3x faster than fixed IP traffic from 2014 to 2019<\/li>\n<li>Mobile traffic data will account for 8% of fixed and mobile data traffic by 2019<\/li>\n<li>North America will have the largest regional share of wearable technology (33%) by 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The forecast suggests that both <strong>machine to machine (M2M) connections and wearable end-user devices<\/strong> have major opportunities for growth in the upcoming years.
